Welcome Friends!
Thank you for visiting the Equine Science Center website. We are committed to our mission of better horse care through research and education to advance the well-being and performance of horses and the equine industry.
Winter and spring 2010 promise to be productive and full of activity as the Equine Science Center continues working diligently on several new projects. We recently launched a Virtual Tour of the Ryders Lane Environmental Best Management Practices Demonstration Horse Farm. The Ryders Lane farm opened its gates as a self-guided tour in late 2009 and is available online. Visitors to our website now have an opportunity to experience the farm, too. Click here to experience the Virtual Tour of Ryders Lane farm.
In In early February, the Equine Science Center will present a one-day horse management seminar title “So You Want To Keep Your Horse Sound…?” Topics for the seminar include: biomechanics and physiotherapy; leg care tips; rehabilitation from injury; unwanted horses; responsible horse ownership; and a panel of presenters discussing the ‘sound horse’ focus areas. For more information on the seminar, please click here.
The Equine Science Center is also working to complete a redesign of the youth component of this website. The new component, Equine Science 4 Kids, will focus on three areas: Equine Healthcare and Nutrition, Horses and the Environment, and Exercise Physiology. Each focus area will feature science specifically written for kids and a gaming element. The youth component is scheduled to go live in early summer.
Our website is designed to be a powerful educational tool for equine enthusiasts of all ages, breeds and disciplines, and horse-related interests. As you explore our website, you will discover two recurring fundamental concepts: research and education. The Equine Science Center faculty members are highly-regarded experts researching critical areas in the horse industry such as nutrition, exercise physiology, healthcare, responsible horse ownership, and integrity in equestrian sport, to name a few.
The Equine Science Center places considerable emphasis on education as we communicate the advancements and developments of our research projects as well as issues of concern to the overall horse industry. Our website offers several comprehensive and unique educational features including:
The Center also offers several workshops, seminars, lectures, and meetings throughout the year. Please see our Events page for details.
We would like to hear from you! Please send us your comments, thoughts, and feedback at esc@njaes.rutgers.edu. Anyone can “speak” to our faculty and staff through this site. If you have a horse-related question, you probably will find the answer in our “FAQs,” located under “Ask Us.” Or, submit your question directly through our Ask the Expert feature.
Cheers, Karyn Malinowski, Ph.D.
