There is another bonus to the USB port. There is nothing I could desire with this product as for ease of use besides if it had a stronger base. Modeled after the industry-standard Uzb series, the MPD32 delivers the most expressive ysb beat control available. I’m glad I got this one although I wish I had had the extra money to splurge and get the padKontrol.
Also, as far as I can tell, there is no “hold” or latch function on the unit, like many grooveboxes.

This very simple hack involves little more than disassembling the MPD16 and putting thin layers of tape on the underside of each of the rubber pads so that they contact the pressure sensing sheet properly.
I use this in conjunction with Battery 3 by Native Instruments and it is a match made in heaven. As Akai driver support is terrible for legacy products, there is no software support for anything past Windows XP. The only downside is that this provides no real controls to navigate Battery but it is such a complex program, a mouse is really all I can mpd166 to use.
Kinda nice, you don’t have to keep the manual close by because the back panel tells you everything you need to remember. Could you briefly tell us why the review was or was not helpful? The usv controller will not link to it’s drivers, therefore it won’t mppd16, that makes it no good to me, for the first time I lost some money on that transaction through eBay.
If you don’t connect by USB you can’t use this utility. Seen it for less somewhere else?

There is very little documentation on the Akai site. Its light and only takes up about a square foot of studio real estate, but you do need it close to you, obviously.
