Interesting to note that Lasersoft’s compatibility info for this scanner only show Silverfast to be compatible with XP and machines, but it works fine wtih Vista x PaulWhiting , Feb 18, I use Vuescan as well. The nice thing with Vuescan is that it works with all scanners, so you don’t have a learning curve if you switch. It the box is blank, there may have been a release but Nikon has since removed the download link.
To get started download Nikon Scan 4. I use a ‘vintage’ Polaroid SprintScan under Vista x I’ve got his Scanning Negatives and Slides and it’s not bad, although not great.

Nikon does not support it, but it works fine. You can always set up a computer cooldcan do dual boot up in order to keep an older operating system going.

Posted July 6, edited. My suggestion is that you just run it like it is and not worry too much more about it. If it says no firmware updates available, there were none released. I didn’t really think of this route when I realised that Nikon coolsacn dumped the program when the Mac OS moved on and had left sin high and dry with my Coolscan ED. I have the as well, and it is Firewire only, so if you have the same thing, it should work per instructions under Windows. Turn on your scanner and connect it to your computer. You require a Windows Vista 64 bit file all explained on the web page plus you do require Vuescan.
