If i run the following manually, I get to use the vmxnet driver no problem. Or did, need to test that once more.
Pxnet32 modifying the file, I ran update-modules and rebooted the machine and I still have pcnet32 being used by the nic. The time now is Linux – Hardware This forum is for Hardware issues. I commented out the 2 lines added by the vmware tools for the nics and added the one in bold as you suggested.

Go to original post. Since changing this on all VMs will be a lot of work since its only doable from the config file? For ESX Debian etch requires some patches to vmware-tools. I’ve loaded it before but haven’t noticed a bug in my network configuration.
Now everything works fine. Firstly you should be using vmxnet not pcnet32, secondly it’s what are you doing with 5. I am assuming your original initrd image is named initrd. Best regards, Edward L.
